Pass The Torch: Michael Moore
Michael Moore is America's foremost activist documentary filmmaker. From his debut film"Roger & Me," to Fareheit 911, Michael Moore is famous for his provocative (and often hilarious) populist documentaries.
Michael Moore is famous for his provocative (and often hilarious) populist documentaries that are unapologetic attacks on callous business corporations, opportunistic rightwing politicians and other social wrongs. As writer, producer, and director, Moore made a satirical jab at General Motors Corporation and its policy of layoffs in his hometown of Flint, Michigan in "Roger & Me" (1989), the highest grossing documentary of all time. He was Executive Producer of the Emmy award winning series, "TV Nation" (1994), which poked fun at TV's news magazine shows like "60 Minutes". His latest cable show, "The Awful Truth", was twice nominated by the Writers Guild for Best Documentary Series. Part stand-up comedian, part reporter, part agitator; Moore uses the power of film and television to expose the greed and exploitive practices of capitalist forces ? a true champion of the underdog.
What distinguishes Michael Moore from other social crusaders is his use of humor to get his message across ? he wants you to laugh and think at the same time. For PASS THE TORCH, Moore discusses the culture of fear in America, and the enduring racism that lies within that culture. His discussion is highlighted by humorous and witty clips on serious subject matters from some of his television series. PASS THE TORCH welcomes Michael Moore as an innovator with a fresh approach to infusing entertainment with an activist's agenda.
